(Trends Wide) — Savannah High School students and staff are safe and were evacuated after “unconfirmed reports of an armed man in the area” came in, Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools spokeswoman Stacy Jennings said. .
“There is no information at this time to confirm that the reports were accurate; however, a full response to the potential threat was carried out to ensure the safety of all occupants,” he told Trends Wide.
“Emergency crews are on scene and searching Savannah High School and Savannah College this morning in response to unconfirmed reports of a gunman in the campus area,” Jennings said.
“A lockdown has been initiated at the school. Emergency crews are evacuating students to a safe unification point while the search continues,” the district official said.
“Parents will receive information about the reunification process with students when the go-ahead is given,” he said.
