Transportation to work remains below 2019, and it is due to the fact that a part of the workers continue to operate in the home office.
Alexandre Nogueira, CEO of Daimler Buses Mexico
2022 will be consolidated as the year of “recovery” for the sale and production of Mercedes-Benz buses in the Mexican market, but it is expected to exceed pre-pandemic levels until 2024, in the midst of an environment of certainty about economic activity. of Mexico, without shocks due to the possible US recession.
Alexandre Nogueira, CEO Daimler Buses México, said that after having lost market in 2020 and 2021, 2022 will set the tone for the beginning of the recovery, and in the coming years continue with the challenge of maintaining 45% market share in Mexican sales.
The dynamism of the recovery is supported by the rise of electrification, which already plays an important role in the life of Mexican daily transport, while at the same time, the engine of strategic sectors of the economy that drive the segment of passengers -which was “badly hit by the pandemic”, registering a 60% drop in production and therefore, reflected in bus sales-, he commented.
“In the year 2022 we already expect growth, and towards 2023 and 2024. In addition, the levels of mobility in the different segments such as school, passenger, tourism, personal and urban, have already recovered, they are even above the 2019. Although transportation to work is less than in 2019, and it is due to the fact that a part of the workers continue to operate in the home office, but pharmaceuticals or supermarkets are above 2019 and continue to grow, like parcels. That mobility is already ready, ”he boasted.
At a press conference, Nogueira mentioned that the industry is still far from placing the 8,500 buses that should be sold in the Mexican market with a normal outlook, since it is estimated that the figure will achieve sales of 5,000 passenger units for all brands, at closing this year.
“Since 2020, we think it would take 4 years for the market to recover. We have an intelligence and market area, so we await the transition to overcome the blows caused by the pandemic -when the confinement was presented- ”, estimated the CEO of Daimler Buses México.
During the last months, Mercedes-Benz buses have seen “a recovery that gives us some certainty, that if nothing strange happens, such as a new wave of Covid-19 or a total crisis of the exchange rate or the economy, in China or the United States , if nothing spectacular happens, we will continue to grow in the following years”, said Alexandre Nogueira.
The German brand is the leader in the Mexican market, and even though a lot of Chinese competition is arriving in the country, it is respectable that it exists so that there is a better product and greater mobility.
