Corporate gifts help strengthen employee commitment

The December festivities have already begun and, unlike the last two years, face-to-face activities take advantage, since it is the opportunity to spend time with friends and colleagues. These meetings, as well as corporate gifts help to keep the commitment and the level of attachment of the collaborators with the company.

“The fact that your company is present and does so through a gift increases the level of intensification of collaborators with your company”, comments Rocío Hernández, Director of Aon México Compensation Consulting, in an interview.

Remember that during the pandemic, sending a gift to your home when collaborating generated engagementbecause it was a way of saying: “You are not alone, even if you do not go to the office, your company keep an eye on you”.

Now that the end of the year meals have been reactivated, employees are excited to meet again with their colleagues, especially after two years of pandemic, an opportunity to thank employees with a present or a raffle and increase the enthusiasm level.

What to give?

Hernández says that the gift that companies can offer varies according to the budget, but the most common are books, bottles of wine or a thermos or cup with the company logo. In the rafflegifts usually have a higher budget, such as household appliances and electronic devices, cell phones, tablets, headphones and screens, among others.

Joaquín Maqueda, Country Manager of Bigbox says that physical gifts have increased, as it has been noticed that face-to-face gifts are highly valued by employees.

He notes that companies can choose to give away a box with a card that they can redeem for an experience or share a gift typel, through WhatsApp or email.

Maqueda agrees with Hernández and says that the budget varies by companybut in gift of experiences the average is 750 pesos, plus VAT, which can be shared with another person and you have a year to apply it.

“Companies are changing the way of giving gifts, from physical objects to emotions, because if they give you something that generates a certain emotion, it you will remember for a long time. They (collaborators) stop having a cup with their name to live a dinner or an adventure”.

Hernández points out that personalized products, experiences or those that the customer really collaborator will use have more impact. For example a black pack that will help you charge your laptop, these “are things that the collaborator really uses, that if the company did not give it to them as a gift, they would have to pay their own money to buy it.”

What can SMEs grant?

The specialist points out that corporate gifts they are almost not carried out in small and medium-sized companies, to a large extent it is due to the lack of budget; however, there are other actions that can be taken to be in contact with the collaborator and feel that they are part of the company.

“Sometimes you don’t have the budget to make those gifts, but if you can do a thank you meeting, a toast simple and thank people for all the effort of the year and take the opportunity to wish them happy holidays”.

This type of action helps to raise the engagement of the collaborators, for this reason it is important “that the human aspect of connection is not lost, because not everything in life is work,” concludes Hernández.
