Four states concentrate active infections of Covid-19

Covid-19 infections have increased in recent weeks, however, the number of hospitalizations has remained below 10%, according to data from the federal Ministry of Health (SSA).

Between December 1 and 7, 12,436 confirmed coronavirus infections were registered in the country; For the same period, but in November, 3,234 virus infections were recorded, that is, there is an increase of more than 284 percent.

However, the increase in cases is not generalized since, for the moment, according to SSA data, active cases and the increase in them are concentrated in four states.

Quintana Roo heads the list as the entity with the highest number of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants since, with a cut-off as of yesterday, December 12, the number of people infected with the active virus was 91.83; followed by Mexico City (72.3); Yucatan registered 61.6 and Tabasco 60.4.

In general in the country, four other states presented rates of active cases between 21 and 30: Sonora (28.5); Campeche (23.2); Baja California (21.9) and Coahuila (21.3).

While the other 14 entities in the country registered rates of 0 to 20 estimated active cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants.

At the presidential press conference on November 29, the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, acknowledged the increase in infections by Covid-19, which he assured was expected due to the winter season.

“Approximately from week 43, the number of cases no longer continued to decrease and from week 45 – at this moment we are in week 48 – a progressive increase began, but fortunately the increase is not accelerated, it is much slower than it was.” the reduction of cases and this is very important to keep in mind, ”he said.

The federal official added that by then there had been five weeks in which an increase in infections was observed.

According to SSA data, for epidemiological week 41 (from October 9 to 15), the positivity rate, that is, the percentage of tests carried out on people who confirmed the presence of the coronavirus, was 8.1 per hundred.

While for week 48 (November 27 to December 3), the last with data available in the SSA databases, the positivity was positioned at 29.3 percent.

In general, until last Sunday, December 11, the percentage of hospital occupancy in both general and ventilator beds was below 10 percent on average.

However, there are states that show significant variations, such as Aguascalientes, which, at the same cut-off date, had a general bed occupancy of 62.9%, which placed the state as the state with the highest saturation.

They were followed by Chihuahua (43.7%); Hidalgo (30.7%); Querétaro (18.4%) and Morelos (16.6%).

Mexico City, it is worth mentioning, was located in the lowest levels at the national level with 3.11%, while the State of Mexico presented a record of 1.14 percent.

Regarding hospitalizations with a ventilator, the percentage remains low in all entities: Hidalgo is the one that presented the highest saturation with 22.2%; followed by Oaxaca (8%); Aguascalientes (7.6%); Colima (7.6%); Sinaloa (3.6%) and Chihuahua (3.1%).

On the other hand, in the Official Newspaper of the state, it was published that as part of the epidemiological surveillance caused by Covid-19, and seasonal influence and other respiratory viruses, the heads of the state public administration were ordered to have their domicile on Government Palace, so that from this Monday, December 12, they can carry out their functions remotely or from home office.
