Biden celebrates 200th birthday of relationship with Mexico

Washington. In the framework of the 200 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and the United States, President Joe Biden reiterated that the countries share a lasting commitment to freedom, democracy and the rule of law and that results will be achieved by working together .

“Throughout our shared history, Mexico and the United States have shown that we are stronger and safer when we are together. Our futures are irrevocably connected,” according to a statement.

The presidents exchanged letters in which they highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two nations.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador recognized the attitude of respect that Biden has maintained regarding the sovereignty of Mexico and his conviction not to build a border wall.

He announced that on the next visit, January 9 and 10, he will propose planning import substitution to produce in North America “what we consume; apply a program for the well-being of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as consider them allies.

While in his letter, delivered by the special presidential adviser for the Americas, Chris Dodd, Biden acknowledged that cooperation has deepened through the High-Level Economic Dialogue, the Security Dialogue and the upcoming Summit of North American Leaders.

For their part, the Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, and Chris Dodd signed, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bicentennial Declaration of Friendship.

Dodd stressed that the countries have a great opportunity to consolidate the region as a democratic, economic and clean energy power in the world.
