“Welcome, investors who believe in Biva”, María Ariza responds to the rumor of a takeover by Nasdaq

About the rumors that Nasdaqthe second largest stock exchange in the United States, could buy a majority stake in the Institutional Stock Market (Biva)the CEO of this stock exchange, Maria Arizadid not deny or accept such a possibility because any investor may be interested in acquiring a growing company.

It is something that I do not have to answer (…) I cannot say more or less, but welcome to investors who want to invest in Biva, because I think it is an interesting investment alternative”, said María Ariza.

“There is no specific clarity on any player, but I can say that Biva is an attractive company for investment because it is a company that grows”.

She commented that she herself is also an investor in Biva, since she acquired part of the company’s share capital because she “believes in the project.”

He stressed that any negotiation or agreement with Nasdaq is an issue that must be answered by the board of directors of the Stock Exchange that he directs, since he pointed out that there is a control group and other relevant investors “who are making decisions in favor of Biva.”

The latest information available shows that currently the private fund LIV Capitalis the majority shareholder of Biva, since it holds the 55% of the share capital of Central de Corretajes (Cencor), which in turn is the controller of said Stock Exchange and of other brokerage companies and market price providers.

The private equity fund, which in turn has Afores such as Citibanamex and Profuturo as its main investors, has injected capital for 1,000 million pesos to the owner of Biva.

Previously, the board of directors commented that every growing company needs financing, so the options for Biva’s expansion may be the entry of new investors, an initial public offering (IPO) of shares, among others.

During the interview, María Ariza emphasized the growth that the stock exchange has had. She said that, with just four years of operations as the new Mexican Stock Exchange, Biva is already recognized not only nationally, but also internationally. Their numbers and market share have increased.

“We started from scratch and we have been growing until today having close to 300 million pesos of incomewe are already at the break-even point and 2023 is better”, highlighted the directive.

Regarding its presence in the market, he said that They already have 60 companies listed, of which 29 are new names; 46% of the issuances, both debt and capital, are being carried out on the Institutional Stock Market. The only placement of shares registered since 2018 was in said stock market.

Regarding operations, he cited figures that show that it already has a 16.9% total market share, which includes operations in Mexican shares and in the International Quotation System (SIC).

He argued that, in this period, the entire Mexican stock market has grown 35%, registering an amount of 20.500 million pesos, on a daily average.

“We continue to grow, it is not that they are forcibly sending us the bids, here there is no forced sending of absolutely nothing,” said María Ariza. “A profound change in the market had to be made and it is being done, that is what Biva woke up to.”
