Christmas sales in Peru have fallen 7% since the protests

The Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, Alex Contreras, affirmed that sales for the Christmas campaign – as a result of the protests at the national level – have fallen by 7 percent. Given this, he announced that a “dynamic” plan will be presented next week and whose execution will be rapid to deal with this situation.

The latest information we have is that as of December, discounting holidays, there is a 7% drop in sales compared to last year. What we are going to do is reverse this trend as an Executive. We are announcing a very fast action plan next week. We are already working on the legal devices, ”he said in RPP Noticias.

This plan -he said- will be focused in favor of the regions and sectors affected by the protests, which in some cases have led to vandalism.

“This social upheaval has affected the most vulnerable. To citizens who had their small businesses, as well as to farmers who have not been able to bring their products, in addition to shops, businesses and restaurants that have been closed due to this conflict. People who want peace and continue working. December is the most important month in terms of economic activity, in which there are more transactions and job creation. It is the month that changes the face of the year for many micro-entrepreneurs, ”she explained.

In this sense, he specified that the measures that have been taken by the Executive are helping to reduce conflict. “The concrete fact is that there is already an economic impact from the protests at the national level. What we are doing from the Ministry of Economy is preparing a rapid reaction plan that can be presented this week, ”he mentioned.

Part of this plan -he referred- is the agrarian bond that will be delivered to the farmers affected by the droughts whose legal device is already being prepared.

“The vision of the economic plan in general will be released next week, it seeks precisely to give impetus to the sectors that have been hit such as farmers, ranchers, micro-entrepreneurs, job creation, among others. The package we are working on is an emergency one that will boost the economy. We are going to advance some measures perhaps on Monday or Tuesday, but on Thursday we are going to present the global plan that will be dynamic and that it will be executed very quickly, ”he pointed out.

In the same way, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) estimated that the tourism sector would lose more than 100 million dollars in January 2023 due to canceled trips, after the acts of violence that take place in different airports of the country and in various regions. . “There are 100 million dollars talking about cancellations,” said the president of the BCR, Julio Velarde.
