US warns that Covid-19 in China is cause for concern for the whole world

The United States hopes that China can cope with the current outbreak of Covid-19 as the death toll from the virus is a global concern due to the size of its economy, State Department spokesman Ned Price said Monday.

“The number of victims of the virus is cause for concern for the rest of the world, given the size of China’s GDP and its economy,” Price told a daily briefing. “Not only is it good for China to be in a stronger position against Covid-19, but it’s also good for the rest of the world.”

He added that whenever the virus spreads it has the potential to mutate and pose a threat everywhere. “We’ve seen it across many different permutations of this virus, and it’s certainly another reason why we’re so focused on helping countries around the world cope with Covid-19,” he added. .

China reported its first drug-related deaths on Monday. Covid-19 in weeks, as there are questions about whether the official count reflects all the victims of a disease that is sweeping cities after the government relaxed strict anti-virus controls.

The two deaths on Monday were the first reported by the National Health Commission (CNS) since Dec. 3, days before the announcement of the lifting of restrictions that had kept the virus in check for three years but sparked widespread protests last month.

The low number of deaths since the restrictions were lifted on December 7 is not consistent with the experience of other countries after similar measures.

Officially, China has only reported 5,237 drug-related deaths Covid-19 during the pandemic, including the last two fatalities, a small fraction of its 1.4 billion people.
