US approves another $45 billion in aid for Ukraine

The United States Congress approved an extension to the federal budget of 1.7 trillion dollars, of which 45,000 million dollars will be to help Ukraine

The text, which was approved by the Senate on Thursday and this Friday by the House of Representatives, prevented the paralysis of the federal government (shutdown) that would have occurred on Friday night if no budgetary regulation was sanctioned.

The bill is good for our economy, our competitiveness and our people and I will sign it as soon as it hits my desk,” President Joe Biden said.

This budget extension will allow financing from the federal government until September 2023.

It includes a reform that toughens an ambiguous 19th-century electoral law and clearly states that vice presidents lack the power to unilaterally overturn election results.

Donald Trump, the former Republican president defeated by Joe Biden in 2020, took advantage of the text’s vague wording to argue that his vice president, Mike Pence, could refuse to certify his rival’s victory, amid false claims of voter fraud.

Pence’s rejection of that request prompted Trump to deliver a speech later considered the spark that ignited the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
