Quintana Roo will receive historic investment in 2023

Cancun, QR. 2023 will represent a historic year in investments for Quintana Roo, both local and federal works.

Governor Mara Lezama announced that more than 1 billion pesos will be invested next year in the archaeological zones of Quintana Roo, including Ichkabal, the largest of all.

He acknowledged that the initial plan was to open Ichkabal at the end of this year, but due to the archaeological prospecting work, the opening has had to be postponed until dates yet to be defined.

“It was expected to be at the end of December, but it depends on how it progresses and if more remains are found. It is a very detailed job and, well, we will depend on how progress is going, on what they find regardless of what has already been found, ”he said.

In addition, the president assured that there is a dialogue with the ejidatarios of Bacalar and with Diego Prieto, director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History.

For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stressed that an agreement must first be reached with the ejidatarios in order to advance in the opening of the archaeological zone, since it is a public commitment from his government.

It should be remembered that in 2017, at the beginning of the Carlos Joaquín administration, the state Secretary of Tourism (Sedetur) announced the rescue of the archaeological zone of Ichkabal, which would trigger hotel and real estate investments of the order of 1,000 million dollars in the following 15 years, which made this one of the most emblematic projects of the previous state government, although not to agreements with the community members.

Ichkabal is characterized by the monumentality of its foundations, more than 40 meters high and 200 meters at the base, which means that they are even four times larger than the vestiges of Chichén Itzá.

AMLO highlights federal resources

Meanwhile, during the morning conference this Thursday in Chetumal, the president confirmed that in 2023 more than 45,000 million pesos will be invested in Quintana Roo, distributed in the Mayan Train, road works that are carried out mainly in Cancun and the airport in Tulum.

“The authorized investment for the works in Quintana Roo next year is 42,000 million pesos. Tren Maya, the airports, because the Chetumal airport was rehabilitated and the Tulum International Airport is being built; the bridge in Cancun, the improvement of Colosio avenue, all means around 45,000 million pesos. I don’t think that in one year the Federation has allocated so many resources to Quintana Roo,” he explained.

The 2023 federal budget for the Mayan Train is 144.662 million pesos, an amount of which is expected to be the majority for Quintana Roo, where sections 5, 6 and 7 are located, which do not report progress, contrary to the rest of the circuit. where the stations are already being built.

To this budget must be added another 7,561 million pesos for four other road infrastructure works already underway in Cancun.

The first of these projects is the Nichupté Bridge with an investment of 5,580 million pesos, which will be completed in December 2023, by the company ICA.

The other work is the resurfacing of Luis Donaldo Colosio boulevard, which is the land entrance to Cancun, with an investment of 1,084 million pesos, by Cemex.

The third project is the Airport Distributor, with an investment of 360 million pesos, which will be completed next October.

Finally, Chac Mool avenue will be expanded to connect it with Colosio boulevard, with an investment of 237 million pesos.

For the Tulum airport, which is already underway, the federal government has not specified the total cost of the work, since it is not foreseen in next year’s budget.

The president also announced that a new hospital in Felipe Carrillo Puerto is already authorized, “the project already exists and construction begins in May 2023.”
