AMLO lawsuit with Peru impacts the Pacific Alliance

Mexico City. Guadalupe González, professor-researcher at the Center for International Studies at El Colegio de México, considered that the way in which the removal of President Pedro Castillo has been handled, both from the presidency and in the Mexican Foreign Ministry, is not consistent with the principles of the Estrada Doctrine.

The doctrine basically says that the government refrains from granting or withdrawing recognition regarding the situation of change that is generated in a country and that the only thing it decides is whether to maintain or withdraw its ambassador, without issuing an opinion, in this case the academic one. He pointed out that the actions of the Mexican government do not follow the guidelines because the Mexican ambassador Pablo Monroy began to manage the asylum and safe-conduct for the former president, “there is an action against the constitutional change.”

“When the foreign minister says that Mexico’s actions are attached to the Estrada doctrine, it is not so,” he said.

For the political scientist Miguel Tovar, “the vision of President López Obrador makes the situation rarer and makes the situation complex to tackle (…) it leads him to a nebulous space, there are not many elements for the Mexican government to get involved in something that is still in process “, said.

Pacific (dis)alliance

One of the effects on the bilateral relationship impacts on the Pacific Alliance. What the Mexican government is saying tacitly is that it is not going to give the rotating presidency to Peru.
