Winter storm causes three days of canceled flights between the US and Cancun

Cancun, QRoo.- This Sunday, December 25 another 10 cancellations were added on flights to and from Cancun from the United States due to snowfall in the north of the continent.

The affected flights are six arrivals: one from Orlando, one from Los Angeles, one from New York, one from Atlanta and two from Minneapolis.

In addition, four other exits affected: one from Los Angeles, one from Atlanta and two from Minneapolis. The airlines are Delta and Jet Blue.

On Saturday the 24th, five canceled flights and 10 delays were reportedalthough the airport concessionaire, Asur, did not specify the destinations or the airlines that canceled.

Last Friday, the terminal reported 10 flights canceled due to snowfall in the United States.

The affected flights were five arrivals: two from Toronto, two from Vancouver and one more from Baltimore.

The affected departures are another five: two to Toronto, one to Vancouver, one to London and one more to Kansas City. The airlines are West Jet, Swoop and Frontier.

The Cancun air terminal is closing the year with an average of more than 600 daily operations, between takeoffs and landings.

In fact, on December 17, the Cancun International Airport reported 719 arrival and departure operations, the highest number ever recorded in the history of the terminal.

As recently as Sunday, November 3, the terminal had broken its previous record for single-day operations by registering 660 landings and departures.

The previous record dates from March 2018 with 659 operations in a single day.

Before the end of the year, the terminal is expected to receive 30 million passengers, also another historical record, since until before the pandemic the maximum figure reached was 25.4 million pesos.

Since last June, the air terminal has increased the volume of mobilized passengers at a rate of more than 2 million per month, since June of this year closed it with 14.6 million; for July the figure increased to 17.4 million; in August it climbed to 20.2 million and by September it stood at 22.3 million.

The trend continued in November, already exceeding 27 million, and in December (the month with the most traffic of the year) it is expected that 30 million passengers will be reached, that is, already at the terminal’s maximum limit.
