(CNN) –– Shania Twain is 57 years old and is proud of her body. So much so that she decided to pose topless for the cover of her single “Waking Up Dreaming.”
“This is me expressing my truth. I feel comfortable in my own body, and this is the way I share that confidence,” the singer told the magazine. People. “I think the best fashion is confidence. And whatever you wear, if you wear it with that, it’s in style.”
Twain has embraced body positivity as she steps back into the spotlight with her new album, “Queen of Me,” due for release on February 3.
“I am a woman in her late 50s and I don’t need to hide behind my clothes. I can’t even explain to you how good it felt for her to take nude photos,” she said. “I’m just not ashamed of my new body, you know, as a woman well into my menopause. I’m not even emotional about it. I feel good with that. It’s really liberating,” she added.
Now, it’s not like that came without some introspection, she said, as she had to fight some self-doubt since her “breasts aren’t as plump as they used to be. Your skin is not as smooth as before.”
“I hit a wall and said, ‘Wow, my confidence is wearing thin. My courage is off. Why am I allowing this? Fuck that,” Twain said. “I’m not going back. I am embracing my body as it changes, as I should have been from my childhood to my teens, as I should be from my 20s and 30s, to my menopausal body. I’m not going to be shy about it. I want to be brave, and I want to share that courage in the artwork I’m directing.”
That impresses a lot.
