By 2023, the rescue of the Central area of ​​CDMX will continue

Due to the strategy of improving the infrastructure of the area Downtown Mexico Cityfor the following year it is contemplated that part of the 3,000 million pesos of debt that was approved to the central government be invested in this area.

According to Expenditure Budget 2023it is planned to carry out an investment of 20 million pesos, charged to this source of financing, to make minor repairs, as well as 35 million more to improve the physical conditions of the Garibaldi Square.

Added to this, the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, explained this Tuesday that they are preparing a recovery project for the Garibaldi area by 2023, which includes an ordering of commercial establishments.

“We are seeing, not only the amount but the characteristics of the recovery, since the businesses that are around must also participate. So yes, we are going to do it next year”, he said after supervising the new facilities of the Indigenous Cultural Centerlocated in Garibaldi Square.

The capital’s president pointed out that one of the goals to be achieved in 2023 is to fully reconfigure and rehabilitate these areas, as well as complement the actions that have been carried out in previous years in terms of the rescue of the Center of the capital.

“Garibaldi was left abandoned, many places in the Historic Center (…) We are rehabilitating La Lagunillaand then we have this space that we still need to make an investment and also socially rehabilitate, to recover much of the Garibaldi tradition”, he commented.

He stated that the rehabilitation plans were even modified because in the past they only focused on rescuing the Polygon A of the Historic Centerand now, as a new addition, it has been extended to Polígono B.

“Most of the interventions were in Polígono A, and we expanded to Polígono B of the Historic Center, much of what remains behind National Palace. So, there have been several places that have been rehabilitated, such as Antigua Merced, a part of Mixcalco, well, Chile and Brazil as streets, ”she pointed out.

Indigenous Cultural Center

Regarding the new facilities of the Indigenous Cultural Center, the capital’s president reported that they will house different resident indigenous communities in order to guarantee that they can market their handicrafts, products and food.

The building comprises around 2,000 square meters spread over four floors.

“It is a property that we received from the Historic Center Trust since before we arrived and it was pretty much finished in our administration. It was going to be given to a single organization and we managed to have a part of the building go to that organization, but that the other floors could be distributed among the different resident indigenous communities that are in Mexico City”, he said.

He stressed that the Indigenous Cultural Center is part of a renovation project both by Garibaldi and the Historic Center that seeks to recover its original essence.

The Secretary of Government, Martí Batres Guadarrama, explained that 16.9 million pesos were invested for the Center and that it will open its doors to the public in January 2023.

It will have 110 sales modules, a multifunctional room and a terrace for members of communities from 36 organizations.
