Cofepris warns about the counterfeiting of seven medicines

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (cofepris) warned this Tuesday that it detected seven counterfeit medicines and the sale of a drug that is not authorized by this regulatory agency, so the consumption of any of these products represents health risks.

Cofepris detailed in a statement that the seven counterfeit drugs that it recently detected are:

• Buscapine (hyoscine/metamizole sodium) in 10 mg/250 mg presentation.

The false batches are BMXA001 and BMXA002, none recognized by Sanofi, holder of the health registry. In addition to a third batch with number 156036, which shows the expiration date of December 2022; while in the blister (packaged) it marks the expiration date of December 2023.

• Neo-Melumbrina with pharmaceutical formulation of 500 mg.

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks explained that this medicine shows two nomenclature numbers, which are B264718, printed on the box, while the batch B20471 is indicated on the plastic container. Sanofi does not recognize such batches as its own.

The commission reported that the pharmaceutical company Bayer had presented evidence showing that the batch XB30PFV, printed on the box, in addition to the X30PVF, indicated on the vial, are not original products.

The health agency warned that the product presents a false transparent security seal, with dark gray contour figures; RJ0594 nomenclature and expiration date in December 2022. “The Roche laboratory indicated to Cofepris that the original batch had an expiration date of December 2020,” the commission said in the statement.

Among the characteristics of the counterfeit product are the batch number 011150, the expiration date of March 2025 and two legends: “Mix one sachet in half a glass with purified water” and “Do not exceed the recommended dose”.

Cofepris said that the symbol of a pregnant woman differs from the image used in the original product; In addition to showing the barcode 75033811, which differs from the one granted by the company that produces this medication.

Cofepris reported that lots 1219046, 03891, 03105 and 05309 are irregular, due to the fact that the packages do not have bar codes and the original product of the Asofarma company does not have a bottle presentation.

• Inhepar of 5000UI/ml, 10 ml. In presentation for the Health sector: C18E881, H6205, C20J955, J202522 and J20J955.

Cofepris explained that the drug that does not have the authorization to be marketed in the country is Rognat (regorafenib), manufactured in India by Natco Paharma Limited, in a bottle of 28 tablets with 40 mg, batch 702552, dated expiring in May 2023 and showing texts in English and Hindi languages.

The health agency alerted the population about this drug because its commercialization in Mexico is a crime, since it does not have import permits.
