Savvy cleaning expert reveals what the three slots in your front loader washing machine are for

A savvy mother has explained why there are three separate compartments in your front load washing machine and which one of them you need to put detergent in.

Ann Russell has amassed a whopping two million followers on TikTok by sharing her ‘genius’ cleaning and organising tips, and this one is no exception.

‘Can I just confirm that nobody knows which one to put the washing detergent in?’ She questioned at the start of the video.

Then she went on to show her own machine and the three slots that exist in the front of it to help direct the soap.

‘They’re marked,’ she said. ‘The one with the flower on it is fabric softener, the one with a “one” mark on it is pre-wash and the one with a ‘two” mark on it is the main wash.’

So for the majority of Aussies it will be the ‘two’ slot that they will be using.

Ann pointed out that ‘pre-washing’ will rarely be required as it’s a function that uses just cold water to try and lift stains before the main wash.

The markings may also vary depending on what brand of washing machine you have, so its worth checking what yours is annotated with.

A third added: ‘I just put a bit in each one.’ 

Many had never heard of the pre-wash function before and were confused about how it worked. 

‘I have never used the pre-wash function in my life,’ one woman said.

‘What is a pre-wash?’ another said.
