BMV closes in red; Investors keep eyes on China

Las stock markets of Mexico they ended lower this Thursday. Local indices closed in the opposite direction to their U.S. peers, in a market that continues to assess the effects of China’s rapid relaxation of its strict rules to control the spread of Covid-19 and an increase in new infections.

The leading index S&P/BMV IPC of the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV), which groups the 35 most liquid stocks in the domestic market, lost 0.26% and closed at 49,517.86 units.

This Thursday there was a low volume of 64 million shares traded, well below the daily average of 200 million shares in recent weeks.

“Operators are already waiting for next week, and more specifically for Tuesday, when normality will finally return after the Christmas holidays,” local firm CI Banco said in an analysis note.

The titles of Latin American sites led the decline, with 2.36% less at 9.52 pesos, followed by those of Mexico Groupwhich lost 1.93% to 71.01 pesos.

The BMV came to win during the day 1.13% to 50,209.79 units.

Meanwhile, the FTSE BIVAfrom the Institutional Stock Market (It happens), lost 0.26% to 1,033.28 units.

The penultimate session of the year was also marked by the release of data on weekly unemployment aid applications in the United States, which was in line with market estimates.
