Russia fires at cities and energy networks in Ukraine

kyiv. Ukraine denounced on Thursday massive Russian bombardments against its energy infrastructure, which caused three deaths and power cuts in the middle of winter in “most” Ukrainian territories.

“There are power outages in most Ukrainian regions,” Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky acknowledged in his daily address on social media.

“Due to significant damage to the network, it is difficult for us to restore electricity in the Kharkov, kyiv, Odessa, Mikolaiv, Kherson and Lviv regions,” lamented the president of the Ukrenergo electricity company, Volodimir Kudritsky, in statements to television ukrainian.

The Russian attacks caused “three deaths and six injuries, including a child,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Denis Monastirski said.

Missiles in Belarus

Belarus, a country allied with Russia, reported that a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile crashed on its territory.

The Belarusian authorities released images that they presented as fragments of that missile in a field in the southwest of the country and summoned the Ukrainian ambassador to demand an investigation.

Ukraine argued that it could be a “deliberate provocation” by Russia to “involve Belarus in the war.”

The Ukrainian military said it shot down 54 of the 69 Russian missiles fired on Thursday. It also reported the destruction of 11 Shahed explosive drones, all of which are Iranian-made.

However, those that reached their objectives caused new damage to the electrical network, already badly deteriorated by almost three months of bombardments.

New electricity cuts were registered throughout the country, where millions of civilians have been facing serious problems of rationing electricity, water and heating for weeks.
