Cortés Mendoza trusted that the new presidency of the Court will return to this institution the professionalism, impartiality, equanimity and political neutrality that it should have: “any indication to the contrary will be pointed out by National Action. However, the ministers will also have an ally in the PAN to echo the complaints they make in the face of any type of pressure. Nothing and no one can be above the law, ”he emphasized.

“Today, like never before, Mexico needs a strong, independent and autonomous Supreme Court of Justice, which does not give in to the pressure or flirtations of the ruling party, which is a counterweight to the Executive and which acts promptly to avoid any type of violation. of rights and guarantees. Today we must all unite to put a stop to authoritarianism ”, he pointed out.

Cortés Mendoza also said he hoped that Norma Lucía Piña would not tolerate the “ambition” of the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador “to control the Judiciary of the Federation and that in contrast to the one who concludes (Arturo Zaldívar), the newly appointed minister president will know how to maintain a healthy distance and the constitutional independence that must exist between the Powers of the Union.”

For his part, the president of the National Executive Committee (CEN) of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), Alejandro Moreno Cardenascongratulated the new president of the Court, and highlighted the fact of being the first Mexican woman to hold the highest position in the Federal Judiciary, which he described as a sign of the maturity that democracy has reached.

He pointed out that the members of the highest court opted not only to preserve, but also to strengthen the independence of one of the Powers of the Union, which will result in the strengthening of its work as guarantor of the Constitution and human rights.

For his part, the PRD leader Jesus Zambranoalso agreed that the appointment of Minister Piña means a message of independence from the federal Executive Power.

“I am pleased that the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation has asserted the balance of Powers, its autonomy as a constitutional body and that it has rejected the authoritarian pressures of the government that it wanted to impose on its minister Yasmín Esquivel, and of course I am pleased that in the exercise of That autonomy has been designated for the first time at the head of our highest judicial body, Minister Norma Lucia Piña, and this speaks of the strength of our institutions and the way we are going to deal with authoritarianism,” he said.

Finally, Citizen movement, through Senator Clemente Castañeda, stated that “the election of Norma Lucía Piña Hernández as president of the SCJN is good news, not only because she is the first woman to preside over it, but because her career and independence speak for her.
