Jalisco’s GDP would exceed national growth

Guadalajara, Jal. Due to factors such as its geographical location, logistics, nearshoring and its diversified economy, this 2023 Jalisco will grow above the national average, anticipated the vice president of the Center for Business Strategic Analysis (CAEE) of the Chamber of Commerce of Guadalajara, Nora Ampudia .

In interview with The Economistalso a professor at the Universidad Panamericana, specified that this year, the growth of the state will be between 1.5 and 1.9%, while the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country will grow between 1.1 and 1.5 percent.

“It should be noted that the economy is very changeable, it is very dynamic; If Russia’s war with Ukraine ends, surely that figure will be exceeded and we can reach a growth of 2.5%, but we depend on that and on the effects of global warming”, he said.

“Jalisco has a very diversified economy; we have a strong agricultural sector, a strong financial sector, a strong hotel and commercial sector, and strong manufacturing; This strength allows us, given the ups and downs of the world and national economy, Jalisco to perform above average”, commented the academic.

He indicated that, additionally, the state and municipal governments “have a vision of the future”, which translates, he said, into a focus on technology and innovation that further promote the economic development of the entity.

The economist stressed, however, that in order to take advantage of advantages such as nearshoring or the relocation of production plants, it is necessary for the government at all levels to grant administrative and fiscal facilities to attract these companies and, she added, “the great pending is still It’s in safety.”

According to the vice president of CAEE, “we have to strengthen business and civil security so that we have even more advantages with nearshoring.”

Talent

Although Jalisco reached record numbers in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during 2022, it is necessary to continue developing talent so that companies that are choosing to settle in the entity have the trained personnel they require, said Ampudia Márquez.

He stressed that the economic sectors on which the economic growth of the entity is sustained are agriculture, commerce, financial services, tourism, pharmaceuticals and high technology.

ITAEE

According to seasonally adjusted data from the Inegi’s Quarterly Indicator of State Economic Activity (ITAEE), the Jalisco economy grew 2.60% in the second quarter of 2022, compared to the first three months of last year.

This increase in ITAEE meant for the entity the best result in the last year and a half.

In addition, it placed Jalisco in the fifth place of growth in the country, behind Nayarit (10.96%), Tabasco (3.77%), Guerrero (3.46%) and Chiapas (2.76%), being the only one of the large economies to show dynamism in the reference period.

It also highlights that economic activity in Jalisco exceeded the records of 2019 by 2.4%, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic that paralyzed all state economies.

At an annual rate, the ITAEE of Jalisco increased 5.6% in the second quarter of 2022, surpassing the economies that are larger than the Guadalajara territory: Mexico City (-2.0%), State of Mexico (0.5%) and Nuevo León (0.7 percent).
