Quintana Roo closes 2022 with 4 million cruise tourists

Cancun, QR. The state closed 2022 with 4 million cruise tourists, of which 3 million disembarked on the island of Cozumel and 1.2 million did so in the port of Mahahual in the south of the entity.

This is clear from the arrival schedule released by the Integral Port Administration of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) at the end of December, according to which during the last month of the year Cozumel received 140 ocean liners, the highest number of the entire year.

Although Apiqroo has not given the definitive numbers of passengers received in the last month of 2022, the average number of visitors per ship received on the island during the previous month was 3,008 passengers, with a total of 112 berths, that is, 336,965 travelers. , the highest figure of the year up to that time.

A month later, with the confirmation of 140 arrivals, the estimate for December is 421,120 passengers, which added to the 2,517,965 captured between January and November last year, yields a total of 2,939,085.

To this must be added that with a cut-off in the month of November, Mahahual added a total of 1,046,286 cruise tourists, aboard 410 ocean liners. By the end of December, Mahahual added 150,000 more tourists, so that during 2022 the southern port of Quintana Roo captured 1,196,286 cruise passengers.

Between both ports, the total number of passengers captured at the end of 2022 was 4.2 million passengers, still far from the 6.1 million cruise tourists that both ports captured in 2019, that is, the level of recovery compared to previous levels. to the pandemic is 68.8 percent.

However, the 4 million captured between both ports represent more than half of the total number of tourists captured at the national level, with Cozumel and Mahahual as ports one and two with the highest volumes of tourists nationwide.

The governor, Mara Lezamstressed that in a statement that the figures recorded at the end of the year in terms of tourism with 30 million passengers at the International Airport of cancun and a hotel occupancy of more than 90 percent, allow us to glimpse a positive future for the entity.
