McCarthy floats path to Speakership with reduced vote threshold

House GOP Speaker nominee Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) expressed optimism about successful the gavel Tuesday night as he emerged from conferences with allied customers following three unsuccessful ballots, floating the possibility of successful the write-up with fewer than 218 votes.
