Government paid 180 million dollars of a loan contracted with the World Bank

The Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) reported that the federal government made an advance payment of 180 million dollars (approximately 3,500 million pesos) of a loan with the World Bank (WB).

The SHCP, headed by Rogelio Ramírez de la O, explained that the prepayment of the loan is part of the strategy to ensure an orderly financial transition for the next administration.

“This strategy has focused on reducing the debt service of 2025 through repurchases of market bonds and prepayments of credits from international financial organizations,” explained the SHCP.

In this sense, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit informed that with the advance payment to the world Bank the debt service payment has been reduced by 70% by 2025 by 3,000 million dollars, approximately 58,000 million pesos.

Mexico has 59 loans in force with multilateral organizations, among which the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (BIRF), which belongs to the World Bank Group, stands out, with which it has a debt of 5,052 million dollars, according to the Ministry of Finance.

It should be remembered that in January 2021 the World Bank approved a loan for 225 million dollars and is aimed at designing the National Unique Digital Identity System that will facilitate inclusion.

The disbursement of this loan it is labeled for the fulfillment of objectives such as the legal harmonization of citizen identity systems in a single information base.
