The Boston Red Sox will aim to rebound as they host the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park for a two-game series beginning Monday. Following the matchups on Monday and Tuesday, the Red Sox have an off day before traveling to New York for a four-game series against the Yankees starting Thursday.
Right-hander Dustin May (7-8, 4.67 ERA) is scheduled to start for Boston. This will be his third appearance for the club since being acquired from the Dodgers at the trade deadline. The Orioles will counter with left-hander Trevor Rogers (5-2, 1.43 ERA).
The Orioles arrive in Boston on a hot streak, having won four of their last five games, including a series victory against the Astros in Houston over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are coming off a tough loss on Sunday, which dropped their record to 57-2 when leading after eight innings.
Boston may also be without outfielder Wilyer Abreu, who exited Sunday’s game with right calf tightness after hitting a two-run homer. Abreu has been a key contributor, batting .300 with 14 RBI and an .860 OPS over his last 16 games.
May has limited experience against Baltimore, throwing two scoreless innings in a no-decision back in September 2019. Rogers has historically pitched well against Boston, posting a 2.45 ERA over four starts (18⅓ innings), though he holds an 0-2 record. His last outing against the Red Sox on May 24 featured 6⅓ scoreless innings in a game Baltimore eventually won 2-1.
