Metrorrey Collective Transport System will rebuild the elevated section of Line 2

Monterrey, NL. The authorities of New Lion decided that the reconstruction of the Line 2 of the Metrorrey Collective Transportation System. It is estimated that around 150 million pesos will be invested in the first phase, with the savings achieved in the 2022 spending exercise.

The intention is to enable the Niños Héroes and Universidad stations as soon as possible, for the return of young people to the facilities of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León.

Although in the budget published in the Official Gazette of New Lion no resources were earmarked to rebuild line 2 and rehabilitate lines 1 and 3, since the 2022 budget was taken into account, a way to have a cushion to defray these expenses will be sought.

It should be remembered that on the morning of December 5, Metrorrey made the decision to close the Niños Héroes, Universidad, Anáhuac, San Nicolás, Santiago Tapia and Sendero stations, which is the terminal located on the limits of San Nicolás de los Garza and Escobedo, due to due to the fact that structural failures were detected in the elevated viaduct.

The director of Metrorrey, Abraham Vargas, assured that in 2017 and 2019 only the capitals were repaired with resin, which was not a definitive repair.

He pointed out that past administrations were aware of the problem and it was not dealt with.

For this reason, an office specialized in railways was hired, accompanied by schools of architects and engineers who gave an opinion and practically 168 capitals must be rebuilt.

This was due to the fact that serious structural flaws were found in the capitals of the elevated section of the Line 2 of Metrorrey.

The time in which these deficiencies will be corrected has not yet been revealed, nor how much the total investment of these works will amount to.

In the budget that was published in the Official Newspaper of Nuevo León, it indicates that this year direct public investment will be 7,976.6 million pesos.

Line 2 was inaugurated in November 1994, it is 13.7 kilometers long, with 13 stations: the elevated viaduct goes from the Sendero station to Niños Héroes and the underground from Regina to General Zaragoza.
