Ovidio is granted suspension against the extradition process to the US

A federal judge granted a flat suspension to Ovidio Guzmán López, the Mouse, against the extradition process to the United States, after his recapture last Thursday in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

The federal judge —whose identity was not revealed— granted the suspension so that Guzmán López is not brought before the US court and “the complainant remains in the place where he is at the disposal of this court, only in relation to his personal freedom and not be delivered to the Government of the United States of America, or to any other State.”

The same judge decreed the ex officio suspension against possible acts of solitary confinement, and to allow him to communicate with his relatives and meet with his legal defenders.

Last Friday, during the initial hearing, in which Guzmán López appeared in prisoner oxford clothing, Judge Gregorio Salazar Hernández of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in Almoloya, State of Mexico, ordered Guzmán’s justified preventive detention for up to 60 days while the United States government decides whether or not to present the file to Mexico for his extradition. In case of not doing so, warned the judge, he will order the release of the son of Joaquín el Chapo Guzmán.

In that hearing, held last Friday afternoon, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) did not file charges against Ovidio Guzmán for crimes committed in our country, despite the fact that the chancellor, Marcelo Ebrard, and the federal Security Secretary, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, said that there were investigations against said person.

Alberto Díaz, 32-year-old lawyer for Ovidio Guzmán, said that his client suffers from various illnesses, including depression and anxiety, for which reason during the hearing he asked the judge to provide medical attention and medicine.
