North America emerges stronger after Summit

Mexico City. After the conclusion of the X Summit of North American Leaders (CLAN), specialists considered that the meeting reflected differences in the interests of the leaders, despite the fact that they met meant something positive.

Ambassador Miguel Ruiz Cabañas opined that the summit began with divergent messages between the leaders, since President AMLO insisted on a program to cover the entire American continent, which has not had a great impact, while both President Joe Biden and the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recognized that the task force is important, but specifically for North America.

“It began with very contradictory speeches between the parties, surely they analyzed in private dialogues the differences that exist in energy matters, food production (…) but from this meeting the North American region came out better than it started,” Indian.

“It seems to me that there is progress. I believe that the fundamental interest of Mexico is to focus on our capabilities, advantages and the benefits that we can obtain from being part of North America. It is important that the trade agreement between the three countries be made to work”, commented the ambassador.

For the professor-researcher of the Center for International Studies of El Colegio de México, Reynaldo Ortega, one of the important points of the meeting is that it was possible to resume dialogue and politics in the region, despite the different issues and priorities, and Despite seeking to address problems together, more structured policies have not been seen. “If there is a climate of greater dialogue between the three countries but the crucial issues, for example, in terms of energy policy, everything indicates that the differences continue and that it will reach the panels; the situation is not very favorable for Mexico, ”he commented.
