As a result of the meeting of López, Biden and Trudeau, it was agreed to boost the competitiveness of the T – MEC region by attracting a high-tech manufacturing industry, such as semiconductors, in addition to creating regional supply chains, investing in education technology and the promotion of clean energy generation to comply with the commitments assumed in terms of combating climate change, as well as investment in the electrification of the vehicle fleet, including the promotion of battery production (with the required investment in the mining of minerals such as lithium).
Thus, the final declaration of the meeting aims to promote policies that result in a more integrated and competitive North American region. Consequently, it was agreed to create a committee of officials from the three countries to make a diagnosis of what is required to achieve the proposed objectives (more on this in the following article).
That was what was agreed. President López was either distracted by recalling how the US presidential plane landed at the AIFA and his journey of more than an hour in the “Beast” with President Biden on a bumpy ride or he did not understand anything and showed us, again, who lives tied to the past. It could be both because in the press conference at the end of the meeting (which he rudely turned into an evening one) he wrongly pointed out that it had been agreed to promote import substitution at the regional level and named Ebrard, Ramirez de la O, Buenrostro and Romo, the “fantastic four”, to be part of the mentioned committee.
López, as he has shown on various occasions and in different spheres, mentally lives in a past that he considers glorious and to which he would like Mexico to return. We see it in his intention to return to a hegemonic political system with a strong president, without institutional checks and without being held accountable. We see it in his energy policy based on the adoption of discriminatory policies in favor of Pemex and CFE (violating, by the way, the T-MEC). And now we see him again with his idea of implementing an import substitution policy similar to the one adopted in Mexico during the 1960s, but now at the North American regional level. Not only is it impossible; she is a remarkable idiot.
poor
Since his chest is not a store, President López opened up and in public, in full color, said that for him the only usefulness of the poor is to win and stay in power, that the support given to them is only for strategy politics and that neither the middle class nor the rich can be trusted to support their project. This statement is added to one that he had previously said where he stated that the poor were like pets that had to be cared for and fed.
Never before in any country, as now in Mexico, economic policy had been expressly designed to keep the population in poverty and, if possible, generate more poor people; this is precisely what López has done. Practically all of its decisions have been to keep poor people poor: undermining legal certainty to discourage investment and growth, repealing the educational reform and leaving education in the hands of the union with the consequent drop in quality, the disappearance of Prospera and Seguro Popular, the cancellation of childcare centers that punish mothers at work, the cancellation of full-time schools that serve the poorest children, the weakening of Cofece and the IFT, and the fight against monopolistic practices while he favors the crony capitalism of his cronies, and so on. It is shameful that the president expressly uses the poor as an instrument of political control, subject to blackmail and extortion by himself, his officials and his political party.
And do not be surprised or fall on your swords because it was known, at least since 2006.
On the sidelines: the pirate minister Yasmín Esquivel is not going to resign nor will they take away her professional license because it is useful for López to be in court to try to prevent her arbitrariness, such as “Plan B”, from being declared unconstitutional.
