Among the companies in the energy sector of Nuevo León there is a real concern about the availability of electricity generation in the state, since many efforts are needed so that the nodes have the necessary capacity to supply electricity to the companies installed in the industrial parks. commented to The Economist, Caesar Chain Chainpresident of the Energy Cluster state.

César Cadena was ratified as head of the cluster for two more years. He said that another of the challenges is to convince the authorities of the benefits of having renewable energy and that there is healthy competition and legal certainty.

“We must have enough energy, because if I don’t have anything I gain from having an industrial park and having qualified people, if I don’t have electricity, that’s very important,” stressed the leader.

At the state level, the cluster maintains a constant dialogue with the Secretary of Economy Iván Rivas Rodríguez, since he is one of the partners of the organization.

“On the other side is the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), which by constitutional order has the monopoly of distribution and electric power distribution. This is where we have been working precisely.”

He explained that Nuevo León has a significant production of energy and even exports to other states, “the problem is the transmission and distribution to the nodes or places already specified in this entire area that require electricity.”

The state is the great consumer of electrical energy, due to the industrial vocation of the state and its population density, since it currently occupies the second place of the Metropolitan Areas with the largest population, indicates an analysis of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic, New Lion (coparmex).

Coparmex pointed out that in 2020 the consumption of electrical energy in the state was 16,000 megawattswhich represented a decrease of -9.4% compared to the previous year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Clean energies

According to data from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE)In 2021, the largest share of renewable energy sources was natural gas with 43.77%, followed by water with 17.22 percent.

In recent days, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador commented: “we want to bet on renewable energies, but it will take time“.

In this regard, César Cadena emphasized that it would be relatively easy to change the matrix, allowing private companies to produce clean energy, “all the mechanisms already exist, what we are looking for is to have legal certainty or to authorize what corresponds.”

He added that the opportunity is there because when the tenders were made, only a few attended the first ones and the second ones were a cascade of bidders.

The drawback is that this type of project requires planning for 3 or 4 years, and up to now there is no certainty or promise that the legal part will be respected.
