Payment to insured by Covid-19 represented up to 1,000% more than in other diseases: Insurance Plan

Guadalajara, Jal. The claims made by people who fell ill with Covid-19 to insurance companies in Mexico, reached an average of 700,000 pesos for each insured, a figure up to 1,000% higher than the average claim for any other disease.

According to the CEO of Insurance PlanSalvador Arceo, the average sickness claims in that company ranges between 50,000 and 70,000 thousand pesos, but between 2020 and 2022, it attended 1,475 cases of Covid-19 for which it disbursed 600 million pesos.

Only in Jalisco, which represents the second most important market for the company with 21% of the insured nationwide, the company attended 191 cases for which it paid 77 million pesos, although only one case registered in Mexico City meant an outlay of 22 million pesos.

According to Arceo Franco, during 2022 and with a significant drop in the coronavirus infectionsIn Jalisco, the insurance company attended 27 cases for an amount of five million pesos.

Prevention

The general director of the insurer stressed that the most serious cases of Covid-19 patients occurred in people with comorbidities, which is why he highlighted the importance of preventive medical care.

He explained that faced with this reality, the company focuses on a plan that finances preventive medical care with clinical analyzes and consultations with health experts, in addition to covering what is traditionally covered by medical expense policies.

“Policies for major medical expenses are designed to financially support people when they have to recover their health and the expense for this is important, but our health plans also have to do with support so that people have access to monitor their health constantly,” he said.
