The agave-tequila chain is highlighted as an economic trigger for the Valles region

Guadalajara, Jal. Along with the bicentennial of the founding of the state of JaliscoIn 2023, the municipality of El Arenal, located in the main tequila-producing area of ​​the entity, will also celebrate the centenary of its constitution.

In that region, “the main trigger for opportunities for economic growth has been the committed participation of local businessmen in tune with the work and collaboration of the community itself,” said the CEO of El Castillo de Tequila, Gildardo Partida Hermosillo. .

Due to the contribution made by the municipalities that make up the Agavero Landscape to the economic development of the state, the tequila house brought together the municipal presidents of El Arenal, Amatitán, Ahualulco de Mercado, San Martín Hidalgo, Ameca, Etzatlán, Magdalena, Hostotipaquillo, SAn Juanito de Escobedo, San Marcos, Tala, Tequila and Teuchitlán, as well as the General Secretary of the Government of the State of Jalisco.

According to Partida Hermosillo, soon, in this region “not only the companies involved in the traditional production chains of this region will be consolidated, but in the short and medium term, other projects related to the tourism sectors will have to grow, services and agroindustry.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Government, Enrique Ibarra Pedroza, shared a paragraph from the first report he gave to the local Congress, Prisciliano Sanchez, considered the founding father of the State of Jalisco and the entity’s first Constitutional Governor.

In that document, Prisciliano Sánchez mentioned the mezcal agave – as tequila was known at that time – as one of the hopes to face poverty in the region.

“On the sandy and stony slopes of El Arenal, Amatitán, Tuxcacuesco and Tequila, there is a wonderful plant that is the agave from which mezcal agave is processed and they say that it is a good product, it is cheap and does not damage; and the day that I hope will not be too far off, it will be sold not only in our towns, but also to other states and other territories, it will be one of the most important lines of our economy,” wrote Prisciliano Sánchez in his report dated December 1. January 1826.

At the end of 2022, the tequila industry reached record figures with 651.5 million liters produced, 416.8 million liters exported, and the consumption of 2.6 million tons of agave consumed.
