Huawei and Amexcid launch program to promote the creation of Mexican startups

Encouraging the creation and growth of startups in Mexico is the objective of Spark, a program created by Huawei in collaboration with the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid).

The program looks for expand technology access opportunities recently created companies to have resources in the cloud, for this, the company has earmarked an investment of 1.6 million dollars.

“We are convinced that the cloud usage in newly created companies, it will promote the creation of more products, which will become new and better solutions that promote the economic and social development of the country,” said César Funes, vice president of Public Relations for Huawei in Latin America.

Mexico has a great leadership in the region when it comes to the development of innovations, therefore, in synergy with the Mexican government, the objective is bridge the technology gap that permeates the country and thus contribute to the local economy.

Training, mentoring and financing

In this edition, the objective is to support 139 newly created companies, of which 60 are expected to be Mexican. Interested companies can register until next May

The selected startups, which will be announced in the first days of July, will receive annual financial support of between 2,000 and 100,000 dollarsin addition to certifications in cloud services and the development of an advertising strategy together with the leading innovation company.

They will also have access to mentoring and training and they will be able to attend monthly networking events. This without neglecting the support that the partners of the entrepreneurial ecosystem will provide, such as venture capital companies, government entities, incubators, and universities.

In this sense, Fernando Liu, president of Huawei Cloud in Latin America, stressed that the goal is to continue collaboration with startups of Latin countries so that, tomorrow, these companies are the ones that direct the future.

For his part, Eduardo García Lima, director of Academic Exchange at Amexcid, pointed out that this project seeks to integrate regionally the countries of the Pacific alliance (Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru).

“With this type of calls we are really making an integration, not only from Mexico abroad, but also taking advantage of all the resources that are offered from the private initiative, the public sector and Huawei. And, with them, take it to the regions with great momentum”, said the manager.

The Spark program was originally launched in Asia Pacific and is currently in the Latin American market. The plan is to reach Africa, Europe and the Middle East this 2023.
