Judge acquits Rosario Robles, Secretary of Development with Peña Nieto

A judge acquitted this Friday Rosario Robles, who was part of the cabinet during the government of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018) and who was prosecuted for corruption in Mexico, the Judiciary reported.

Rosario Robleswho served as Secretary of Social Development and head of the Secretary of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, was accused of participating in a diversion of public resources during the government of Peña Nieto, a case known as “the Master Scam”.

In a hearing held in Mexico City, the judge issued an acquittal and the cessation of criminal prosecution against Robles, a source from the Judiciary told the press.

Robles, 67, was imprisoned between August 13, 2019 and August 19, 2022, when she was released at the request of the defense, which argued that the former official was facing health problems.

The former minister was accused by the prosecution of omission in the face of deviations made by her subordinates in the two units she directed.

Robles’ arrest was seen as a step in the crusade against corruption that the government of the leftist president claims to be leading. Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorelected in 2018 in part because Mexicans were fed up with the looting of public resources.
