We have finished the civil works of the New Line 1 of the Metro, a titanic job, in record time and unprecedented in the world

• Starting tomorrow, the testing period begins and it is scheduled to start service for users at the end of May.

• “There are those who say that we have not invested in the city’s Metro, well, we are investing 37 million pesos in public works financed to change all of Line 1 which, as you have already heard from Guillermo (Calderón), had huge problems and since 2014 it already a recommendation had been made that it be fully modernized,” he emphasized.

*Mexico City, February 28, 2023.-* The Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, led the delivery of the civil works and tracks of the first section of the New Line 1 of the Metro, as part of of a comprehensive modernization project that contemplates a historic investment of 37 billion pesos, a work that practically implies building a new Metro line.

“Today we are here to give you the news that we have finished the civil works for the New Line 1 of the Metro, it has been a titanic job, (…) it has been done in record time, there is no such example anywhere else in the world, because we are actually building a new Metro line”, highlighted Claudia Sheinbaum.

The president of the capital, explained that this great engineering work consists of making totally new what had existed for half a century, the rail box was completely emptied, all the water leaks that had been fixed, new culverts were built to prevent flooding, a new drainage system was installed on the entire line, all the ballast, the tracks, the guide bar, absolutely all the elements of the different systems that make the Metro work were emptied and replaced completely new, with the most modern technologies which can be anywhere in the world.

He added that, in this first phase that goes from Isabel la Católica to Pantitlán, the works were carried out under very meticulous logistics, since there are only three areas where all the material can come in and out.

Claudia Sheinbaum explained that the next step will be the testing phase, the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC) and the consortium of 24 companies, led by the Chinese company CRRC, which are collaborating with the work, will proceed with the tests of the tracks, telecommunications, signaling, electrical, electronic and later the dynamic tests with empty trains.

The first 10 trains of Line 1 of the Metro will enter, which already circulated on this line but intervention was necessary in each one to update them according to the new operating software, in addition to the 29 new trains that are being assembled at the Querétaro plant .

“Every 15 days we will be coming together with the media so that you can see what is the progress of what we are doing, the tests according to the experts, according to the companies, because you have to give your time to that they have all the certainty and all the security possible,” said Dr. Sheinbaum.

Finally, Claudia Sheinbaum, Head of Government, gave a special and recognized thank you.
