BUCHAREST- The controversial internet character Andrew Tate he will be transferred to house arrest after a Romanian court accepted an appeal, his lawyer said on Friday.
Tate, his brother Tristan and two Romanian suspects have been in police custody since December 29, while the prosecution investigates them for alleged human trafficking, rape and formation of a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.
They have denied all the accusations.
“The judges of the Bucharest court of appeal upheld our appeal and rejected the prosecutors’ proposal to extend the order and changed the order to house arrest for all defendants,” Tate’s lawyer Eugen Constantin Vidineac told Reuters by telephone.
British-American Tate, based mainly in Romania since 2017, is an online influencer and self-described misogynist who has amassed millions of followers, especially among young men attracted to her markedly macho image.
