(Trends Wide) — A train carrying potentially hazardous materials derailed and caught fire Saturday in a central Maine town, according to authorities.
The Rockwood Fire and Rescue Department said the train derailed north of Rockwood, a town in Somerset County that borders Moosehead Lake, the state’s largest body of freshwater.
So far it is unknown what materials the train may have transported or which company is involved.

Somerset County Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Smith said there was a train derailment in northern Somerset County on Saturday and that several state and local first responders were “on the scene.”
Smith noted that the Jackman-Moose River Fire and Rescue Department and the Maine Forest Service were expected to issue a joint statement on the derailment Saturday afternoon.
