Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley were left giggling like children during TNT’s NBA coverage on Tuesday night, after ‘Chuck’ compared Stephen A. Smith to Boston Celtics star Derrick White because of his hairline.
White was sensational for the Celtics on Tuesday, leading his team to a 2-0 lead over the Hawks with 26 points in front of a home crowd that chanted ‘MVP’ in appreciation.
But as the analysts watched the clips back on TNT, two of their stars got the giggles.
‘Is that Derrick White or Stephen A.?’ Barkley said through his laughter. ‘Damn, Derrick! We love you, Stephen A.! Damn Stephen A.!
‘Stephen A. plays for the Celtics! He do First Take in the morning and plays for the Celtics!’
Charles Barkley first made the joke about Stephen A. Smith and Derrick White looking similar
And fellow analyst Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t hold himself back from laughing on the show
They joked that Derrick White (left) and Stephen A. Smith had similar hairlines
Shaq then joined in with the jokes, singing: ‘Y’all never find… a hairline like mine.’ He was left in such hysterics that he was even seen wiping away tears at the end of the segment.
White typically plays with a headband but spoke in a press conference after the game without it, which is what led to O’Neal and Barkley’s comparison.
Smith himself saw the clip that was quickly being circulated across Twitter and he saw the funny side.
‘Love all of my brothers on NBAonTNT,’ he tweeted, with three crying with laughter emojis. ‘But I’m gonna get Shaq and Chuck for comparing me with Derrick White. Y’all are gonna pay for that.’
As for White, he will be focused on the playoffs charge for the Celtics as they surged into a 2-0 lead with a 119-106 win against the Hawks.
‘(Tatum and Brown) get a lot of attention. It just opens up the court for myself,’ White said after the game.
‘When the opportunity is there I just have to attack and do what I do.’
While Tatum had the exclamation point and finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds, he said the night belonged to White.
The footage was not missed by the man himself, who took to Twitter about the joking
Both O’Neal (left) and Barkley (right) struggled not to laugh after joking about Smith
At one point in the broadcast, O’Neal (left) was even seen wiping away tears of laughter
The defensive-minded guard contributed all over the court, pouring 26 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
‘We’re so much more of a dynamic team when D-White is asserting himself and being aggressive and not being passive.’ Tatum said.
‘These last two games (White) being aggressive, making the right play, attacking the rim and not necessarily waiting makes us that much more of a better team.’
The third game of the series is Friday night in Atlanta.
