Lima, April 20 (.).- The Peruvian authorities presented this Thursday 129 “priority projects” that they propose to be carried out through the Works for Taxes modality, for a total of 8,457 million soles (2,225 million dollars), reported the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión).
The agency pointed out that the portfolio includes projects in sectors such as transport, sanitation, production, security and education, which arise “given the need to continue reducing the gaps in infrastructure and public services and promote development.”
These are 7 projects of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), for 792 million soles; 30 from the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), for 226 million dollars, and 26 from the Ministry of the Interior, for 629 million soles.
In addition, 13 from the Ministry of Production, for 377 million soles; and 18 from the Ministry of Education, for 954 million soles, as well as 35 from the government of the southern region of Cusco, for 5,479 million soles.
“These projects indicate the future path that Proinversión and public entities must follow jointly to generate infrastructure and quality public services, and for the private sector it represents an opportunity so that it can contribute to closing gaps in social infrastructure, in order to efficiently and quickly,” said the executive director of Proinversión, José Salardi.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Economy of the MEF, Juan Pichihua, stressed that in recent years the ministry has promoted the expansion of the scope of projects that can be executed through Works for Taxes.
“From the MEF we have also incorporated new sources of resources so that today the possibility of leveraging resources for regional and local governments, through the Works for Taxes mechanism, is immense,” he said.
Proinversión reported that the goal of public organizations for 2023 is to award at least 19 projects through Works for Taxes, for more than 620 million soles.
The agency added that since the creation of the Works for Taxes mechanism, 15 years ago, it has promoted and contributed to the awarding of 513 works at the three levels of government (national, regional and local) for an estimated amount of 6,756 million soles. , which has benefited more than 21 million people.
The Works for Taxes mechanism allows private companies to advance the payment of their income tax to directly finance and execute public investment projects, an amount that is later returned to them through certificates that can be used to pay taxes.
