(CNN) — Three is not a crowd for Justin Theroux. In fact, he is welcoming you.
On Monday, Theroux told Entertainment Tonight that he developed a bromantic bond with his “White House Plumbers” co-star Woody Harrelson, despite facing stiff competition.
“We had a bit of a bromance,” Theroux said of Harrelson, adding that he knows he is “in competition” with Matthew McConaughey, who has “the original bromance” with the “Cheers” star.
Theroux went on to say that he’s trying to “break them apart and see if I can, you know, have an open bromance.”
“We are in 2023, we should be able to share friends,” he joked.
Premiering May 1 on HBO Max, “White House Plumbers” sheds light on the history of Watergate scandal cohorts E. Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Theroux) and the events leading up to one. one of the biggest scandals in political history. (CNN and HBO share a parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)
Meanwhile, Harrelson and McConaughey, “True Detective” co-stars, may be part of one of the best bromances, but there could also be a real brotherhood, according to McConaughey, who said on the “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” podcast the last week that she found out she might actually be related to Harrelson’s.
“You know, where do I start and where does he end, and where does he start and do I end, it’s always been kind of a murky line,” McConaughey said of Harrelson at the time, adding “that’s part of our romance, right? My His kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew, and so on. And when you see pictures of us, my family thinks a lot of the pictures of him are mine. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him.”
McConaughey and Harrelson’s friendship dates back to the 1999 movie “EDtv,” and the pair are about to appear in an upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series called “Brother From Another Mother,” which is a fictional portrayal of their own. friendship.
The possibility that Harrelson and McConauhey are related doesn’t surprise Theroux, who has worked with both actors and told ET that “it’s just a mental thing. They’re both so wonderfully relaxed all the time.”
