(CNN) — The girl band BLACKPINK is one of the most successful in K-Pop since its debut in 2016, surpassing even the likes of Justin Bieber in popularity. With their tour “Born Pink” they arrive this April 26 and 27 at Foro Sol in Mexico City.
Here are some details of the band and how it is made up.
The BLACKPINK phenomenon
BLACKPINK originated from YG Entertainment, a prominent South Korean record label. This company is in charge of identifying artists with potential and subjecting them to intensive training to develop their talent and turn them into stars.
The group has achieved several major records, including multiple Billboard chart toppers, the most viewed video by a K-Pop group on YouTube, the first video by a K-Pop group to reach 1 billion views, among others.
In 2020 they became the first K-Pop women to win an MTV Video Music Award and in 2022 they were named “artists of the year” by TIME magazine.
This year they arrived at Coachella 2023 as the festival’s lead singers.
In the documentary “Blackpink: Light Up the Sky” the journey of the four young women to achieve fame is shown, as well as the hard training of YG entertainment in which they can get to have a day off every two weeks.

Before joining BLACKPINK, Kim Jennie lived in New Zealand and is fluent in three languages: English, Korean, and Japanese. In 2018, Jennie became the first BLACKPINK member to release her own song as a solo artist, titled “SOLO,” according to Billboard.
According to PeopleJennie will debut on June 4 as an actress in the HBO drama “The Idol,” where she will act alongside Lily-Rose Depp under the stage name “Jennie Ruby Jane.” The series is a collaboration between famed singer The Weeknd and renowned “Euphoria” writer-director Sam Levinson.

Kim Jisoo is the only one of the group born and raised in South Korea. She made appearances in commercials before becoming a singer and starred in the historic K-drama series Snowdrop of JTBC since December 2021. Although she is the only member who is not fluent in English, she speaks Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. According PeopleBLACKPINK fans describe her as the most “adorable” of the group.
In January 2023, YG Entertainment released a statement confirming that Jisoo is working on a solo project.

Roseanne Park is a New Zealander of South Korean origin. She is fluent in English and learned Korean after moving to South Korea to participate in YG Entertainment’s training program, she claims Billboard.
