Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo did some individual work on the court Sunday, according to head coach Mike Budenholzer, but his status for Monday’s game against the Miami Heat is still uncertain.
‘We’ll continue to monitor him,’ he said on Sunday afternoon.
‘We’ll see how he feels from the session today and see how he wakes up tomorrow.’
Antetokounmpo missed Game 2 and Game 3 of the playoff series against Miami after suffering a lower back contusion in Game 1 following a collision with Heat big man Kevin Love.
His absence has played a large part in the Heat taking a 2-1 lead in the series.
Giannis Antetokounmpo watched Game 3 from sidelines but did individual work on Sunday
Antetokounmpo missed Game 2 and Game 3 due to a back injury he suffered in Game 1
Despite getting some work in on the court Sunday, Antetokounmpo has not been able to participate in a normal practice since injuring his back. He was listed as questionable before eventually being ruled out for the last two games.
‘I think the medical group, myself, [general manager] Jon [Horst], Giannis just have to feel like he’s in a place where he can play,’ Budenholzer added.
‘He always wants to make himself available, he does everything to make himself available.
‘He wants to play, but I think there’s also a maturity for Giannis and an understanding and a growth that we just respect and I think he respects us.’
Antetokounmpo has not been the only player to suffer an injury this series that has required him to miss game time.
Miami shooting guard Tyler Herro was diagnosed with a broken hand after he was hurt diving for a loose ball in Game 1.
To make matters worse fan favorite SG Victor Oladipo, who stepped into the rotation to fill Herro’s spot, suffered a torn patellar tendon in his left knee during Game 3 which has ruled him out of the remainder of Miami’s season.
Budenholzer and the Bucks provided no further update as to whether their superstar, who averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 points, and 5.7 assists during the regular season, will be able to suit up for a crucial Game 4 on Monday or not.
