(CNN) — Maria Menounos revealed that she is recovering from a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
The former “E! News” correspondent says she started feeling sick last summer. In January she was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer after an MRI revealed the presence of a mass. She underwent surgery to remove part of her pancreas and her entire spleen, and now she is cancer-free, Menounos told “Today.”
He stressed the importance of early detection.
Menounos explained that he was initially diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, but was suffering from abdominal pain. At a party, a friend suggested she get a full-body MRI, which revealed the mass on her pancreas.
A biopsy confirmed that it was cancer and she was operated on immediately. Fortunately, according to Menounos, she doesn’t have to undergo chemotherapy.
It’s not his first health scare. In 2017 she underwent surgery for a brain tumor.
Menounos and her husband, Keven Undergaro, are expecting a daughter by surrogacy.
