Huawei and Amexcid will invest 1.6 million dollars in Mexican startups

Technology of Chinese origin Huawei and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (Amexcid) plan to invest 1.6 million dollars in 60 Mexican startups, over the next three years.

As part of the acceleration program Spark from Huawei’s cloud division, together with the Mexican government agency, startups will be able to access economic financing of between 2,000 and 100,000 dollars.

Mexican companies will also have access to certifications in the use of the cloud, to the development of an advertising strategy accompanied by the Chinese company and to aid in terms of internationalization of their product or service.

“What we do is help the entire entrepreneurial ecosystem with three pillars: awarding prizes for the use of the cloud and exponential technologies, such as the Big Data and the intelligence artificial; specialized mentors to help organizations scale and we also want to help companies and internationalize so that they can continue to grow”, said Omar Arab, director of Business Development for Huawei Latin America.

The startups that can participate in the Huawei Cloud and Amexcid Spark program, according to Arab, are those that already have a minimum viable product; who intend to use technologies such as the cloud, the Big Datathe chain of blocks (blockchain) and the intelligence artificial; In addition, they must have a certain level of billing or be close to reaching it.

“We are working with some local investors, but we are also expanding the ecosystem so that those companies that want to internationalize to the north or to Asia can also work. Today Mexico has a huge opportunity with nearshoring and we want to take advantage of it,” she said.

The call to participate in this program will be open until July 31, 2023 on the page https://huaweicloud.mx/huaweisparkprogram-amexcid/. The announcement of the winning startups will take place on August 16 and between August and September there will be various technological and Venture Capital mentoring sessions provided by specialists such as Martín Barrios Cuellar, managing director at Bank of America; Jean Bernaud Rolland, Director of Technology at COVALTO and Mario Hernández, Executive Director of Finvero.

At the global level, Huawei Cloud has launched this program in countries in Asia, Africa and Europe, where it has financed 10,000 startups. According to Arab, in Latin America, the company seeks to focus on small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), which represent up to 70% of the different economies of the region.

“That is why we have launched Spark, to be able to help that economy so that there is more talent. That they use technology to be able to scale the company and if that ecosystem of entrepreneurs and SMEs has more income, the country grows, there are more jobs and that circular economy continues to grow exponentially”.
