The New York Knicks will not offer a contract extension to general manager Scott Perry, parting ways with the front office executive in the offseasons after six years in charge.
Perry, whose contract is set to expire, led the revived Knicks to the second round of the playoffs this season – the furthest that the team’s gone since the 2012-13 season.
The 59-year-old, who worked closely with president Leon Rose and executive vice president William Wesley this season, had been general manager since 2017-18.
He was hired under former team president Steve Mills, and was retained by Rose when the latter was appointed in his role in 2020.
In his first season as GM, Perry traded away All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony, just months after Phil Jackson’s departure in June 2017.

He also dealt Kristaps Porzingis to the Wizards in 2019 and was also behind the free agent signing of Julius Randle, following snubs from max-contract free agents, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. He also advocated for New York to sign Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier.
Furthermore, Perry was responsible for drafting team starlets R.J. Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes and Obi Toppin.
There were also internal disagreements over the handling of the Knicks’ trade for Cam Reddish, who was discarded just a year later.

The blame was put on Perry for completing the deal, even though it did manage to bring Josh Hart to New York in the end.
Perry’s departures comes after New York made its second postseason appearance in three seasons. In 2020-21, the team lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the first round in five games (4-1).
The Knicks’ future remains bright, however, with the team in possession of 11 first-round picks over the next seven NBA drafts, although that doesn’t include a selection in this summer’s draft class.
A potential replacement for Perry is former Timberwolves president Gersson Rosas, who worked as a consultant for the Knicks last season, according to Newsday.
It’s been widely believed that the 44-year-old has a close working relationship with Rose.
