Two of the NBA’s greatest-ever playmakers crossed paths on Thursday – except this time they weren’t standing on the hardwood.
Steve Nash is competing with Italian outfit Como in The Soccer Tournament – a seven-on-seven competition featuring current and former pro players competing for a $1million prize.
And Chris Paul, an investor in the tournament, showed up to its Cary, North Carolina facilities Thursday to take in some games on its first day of action.
That included a pregame chat with Hall of Fame point guard Nash, who’s joined forces with Cesc Fabregas on Como in the competition.
The former Suns star and recent Nets coach is no stranger to soccer – having starred in the sport in high school – and showed off his silky skills on Thursday vs. Wrexham.

Como would eventually fall to Wrexham 3-2 in dramatic fashion after relinquishing a 2-0 lead. Wrexham’s squad features former Red Dragons players like Andrew Morrell and others from the English football pyramid.
‘As a football fanatic and somebody that loves to play, this is great,’ Nash said.
‘I want this thing to grow – to be a great tournament in the landscape of soccer in this country.’
Elsewhere in the competition, Team Dempsey – coached by the former USA star (and TST investor) – won 5-4 with the help of Jermaine Jones and Chris Wondolowski.
Meanwhile a West Ham team featuring Carlton Cole lost 4-2, and Chad Johnson’s Nati SC fell 4-3 to Hashtag United.
The group stage of the tournament runs through Friday with a winner eventually being crowned on Sunday.
