(CNN) — James Cameron, director of the hit movie “Titanic” and who has made 33 dives to the wreck, shared a few words on Thursday, after it became known that the submarine that disappeared on an expedition to the ocean liner suffered a “catastrophic loss” that caused the death of five people on board.
“I am struck by the similarity to the Titanic disaster, in which the captain was repeatedly warned of the ice ahead of his ship, yet he sped into an ice field on a night without moon, resulting in the deaths of many people,” Cameron told ABC News. “And with a very similar tragedy where warnings were ignored in the exact same place, with all the diving that’s been done in the world, I think it’s just amazing. It’s really surreal.”
