(CNN) — Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, underwent surgery after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she revealed on an episode of her “Tea Talks” podcast published Monday.
During the podcast, which was recorded last week before her operation, Ferguson said: “I’m going to have a mastectomy tomorrow.”
“I want every single person who listens to this podcast to get checked up, get screened and get it done,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson reportedly left King Edward VII Hospital in Marylebone in central London on Sunday and is said to be recovering with his family in Windsor, according to the British Press Association (PA).
According to PA, a spokesperson for the Duchess said: “Sarah, Duchess of York, was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected on routine mammography.”
“He was advised that he had to undergo surgery which has been carried out successfully,” according to PA.
“The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good. She is now recovering with her family.”
The spokesperson added that the Duchess expressed her “immense gratitude” to the medical staff who had supported her and to the staff involved in the mammography.
His illness was otherwise “without any symptoms” and Ferguson “believes his experience underscores the importance of regular checkups,” the spokesman said, according to PA.
