(Trends Wide) — At least one person was killed and four others were injured during a shooting at a block party in northeast Indianapolis on Monday night, the Indianapolis Police Department reported.
Several weapons were found at the scene of the shooting, which occurred along Forest Manor Avenue around 11 p.m. Monday, police said Tuesday.
Agents responded to a report of a person shot and found a woman shot, police explained in a press release. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services.
Shortly thereafter, several people were admitted to hospitals with gunshot wounds, according to the statement. Two individuals, both in stable condition, went to Community East Hospital, while a third went to Community North Hospital, according to the statement. The status of the third individual was not listed. A fourth wounded individual also made it to a hospital, police said, but did not suffer a gunshot wound.
Investigators believe all of the injuries are related to the scene on Forest Manor Avenue, where several cars remain parked after sustaining damage as people tried to flee the scene, authorities said.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a party was taking place in the neighborhood “when a disturbance broke out and shots were fired,” according to the statement.
The inquiry is ongoing and police ask anyone with video footage or information to contact detectives.
The shooting is just one of several that on Monday night altered the life of the United States: another shooting in Philadelphia left five dead – including a 15-year-old boy – and two children aged 2 and 13 injured. Another, in Fort Worth, Texas, left three dead and eight injured.
