Shocking moment ‘out of control’ dog is Tasered by police and shoved in wheelie bin

This is the shocking moment a dog was Tasered and shoved in a wheelie bin by police who said they were trying to keep nearby children safe. 

West Midlands Police were filmed immobilizing the pooch after officers were called to Milverton Road in Coventry on Tuesday to a report that a group of dogs were fighting in the street.

They said one dog at the scene was ‘clearly out of control, attacking other dogs’ and posed a threat to members of the public nearby, ‘a number of whom were children’.

To prevent the canine from seriously harming anyone officers quickly decided to Taser the animal and trap it in a nearby bin until it calmed down. 

Video footage of the incident shows the dog incapacitated on the pavement as two officers try to force it into the bin while another holds the container in place. 

Police confirmed that contrary to reports on social media, the dog was not killed in the incident.

A force spokesperson said: ‘We were called to Milverton Road, Coventry, where a group of dogs were fighting. 

‘When officers arrived, one of the dogs was clearly out of control, attacking the other dogs and presenting a risk to members of the public nearby, a number of whom were children. 

‘Because of this risk and because the dog was out of control, officers used a Taser to prevent it causing serious harm. 

‘Contrary to reports on social media, the dog was not hit by a police car and was not killed. The dog was put in a bin by officers to keep it out of harm’s way while the situation was brought under control.’

A police dog unit removed the animal, which has since been assessed as fit and well by a vet and taken to kennels, with its owner kept updated.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward.

A man was arrested on suspicion of obstructing police and was interviewed on Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing and officers want to speak to a dog owner whose pet is believed to have been involved.
