Pubgoer finds a horrific message printed on their receipt after making a simple request for ice in their wine

A rude message printed on a pub receipt – apparently having a crack at a customer for demanding ice in their drink – has caused a stir online. 

A receipt from the Cornish Arms, in Brunswick, Victoria, was shared to social media this week. 

‘Lovely note that a restaurant left on my friend’s dinner receipt’ – a reference to the message ‘ice in it f****n’ bogans’ attached to the order for one glass of Terre Forti Pinot Grigio. 

Another glass of the same beverage also featured on the receipt – with a much less offensive message, ‘chilled’ – as the white wine is normally served.

Some Australians slammed the worker responsible as ‘savage’ but noted the pubgoer may have had a good reason for their demand for ice. 

‘It’s actually meant to be drunk around 10-13 degrees, not the sweltering 25-35+ degrees we get,’ one Reddit user explained.

‘The temperature of the wine affects flavours in a similar way to cheese.

‘At the end of the day, doesn’t matter what’s ‘expected’ or ‘appropriate’. The customer has paid for it and can drink it however they like.’

‘This is absolutely hilarious but also very amateur to leave the notes on the receipt for the customer,’ another added.

‘If you can’t do your job without showing basic human respect, you need to find an industry that limits your contact with the public,’ a third wrote.

Others labelled the server as a ‘legend’ and that they would have found the humour in it.

‘No dressing on the salad, extra gravy, mash instead of chips and fish in chips, medium-well steak AND ice in a drink?’ one person commented

‘(She) isn’t wrong. It’s f****** winter and you are in Victoria, the f*** you need ice for? Just say you don’t like wine and order a f****** Cruiser. Nothing wrong with that,’ another said.

The Cornish Arms caters specifically to vegans with their website stating they have a ‘creative and extensive range of vegan dishes’.

The establishment was flooded with Google reviews after the post got traction on Reddit. 

Multiple people left one-star reviews alongside the screenshot of the receipt, while others left five stars and were full of praise for the waitress.

The reviews have since been removed.  

However, comments remain on their social media platforms such as ‘Ice in it f*****’  bogans – classic, you guys are famous on Reddit’.
